Unlike other watchwinders which rotate a watch in order to wind it, the unique SPARTA 2 watchwinder gently swings the watch instead. Every 10 minutes the internal control micro-processor signals the drive motor to make a single turn, causing the watch to swing back and forth for several oscillations just as it would if it were being worn on the wrist. The 15 minute program on battery powered winders ( extended program )allows many watches that wind in both directions to remain fully wound while on the winder, providing increased battery life by as much as 50%. The oscillating winding action of the SPARTA 2 Watchwinder is totally self-regulating and there is absolutely no chance of damaging an expensive watch by over-winding. A semi-circular rotor, attached to the back of each mounting cup, is the 'heart' of the patented ROTORWIND system. Made from a dense, non-magnetic iron material, it is supported by two free-turning precision ball bearings, thus enabling the heavy mass of the rotor to produce the 'back and forth' motion when the cup is raised and then released from the 12 o'clock position. Each head has it's own power switch and operates independently. These budget-priced free-standing open models are available in an anodized aluminum or covered in a stylish textured black leather-like material. Rubber feet prevent slipping and protect delicate surfaces from scratching. Several enclosed models are available. Choose black, mahogany, burl or rosewood according to model. All cases are suede lined and feature spring hinges to facilitate quick and easy watch mounting. Choose from two attractive finishes; elegant Black Piano or always attractive Mahogany. The watch to be wound is easily mounted over a resilient foam cushion, which accommodates virtually any size watch with either leather strap or metal bracelet. The cushion fits snugly into the drive cup, making it impossible for the watch to fall as the cup swings back and forth during the winding cycle. Both cups are easily removed to facilitate watch mounting. The SPARTA 2 DC Watchwinders are powered by two pair of 1.5 volt, 'D' cell alkaline batteries, one pair for each winder head. As the drive motor only powers the first oscillation of each winding cycle, with all succeeding oscillations totally powered by gravity, battery drain on the motor is minimal. Hence, the SPARTA 2 Watchwinder is guaranteed to operate for a minimum of two years without any need for a battery change. The SPARTA 2 AC Watchwinders are a breakthrough in winder design. They employ a pair of unique USA-made synchronous motors that rotate extremely slowly, turning at only six revolutions per HOUR ( 6 RPH, not 6 RPM ).This equates to one complete motor cycle every 10 minutes, the same winding cycle as it's battery powered counterpart. For those who wish to keep there winder bedside, this AC version is the perfect choice as it's slow speed, high torque motor is totally silent in operation.
